Global Design Project #GDP140

By | June 2, 2018

This week at the Global Design Project, they are CASEing designer Brian King.  (CASE = Copy And Selectively Edit.)  You can take what you like from the project and make changes.  For example, you can change the stamp set, colors, theme, and even the layout.  The most important thing is to make it your own.  The winner will be invited to be a guest designer for the next six months!!!  Wow, what a treat!

You can see Brian’s project below and go to the Global Design Project website to see all the other designers’ CASE of his card:

When I looked at Brian’s card, I saw a main image, sentiment to the lower right, background in the lower half, and multiple layers.  I decided to keep the general layout, but change up the stamps, colors, and add my own style, which is … WATERCOLORING!!!

My card features the Bouquet Bunch Framelits Dies and coordinating Beautiful Bouquet stamp set.  There really isn’t a lot of stamping on my card.  It’s mostly die cuts and techniques.  I used both a smooching technique for the background and watercoloring technique for the bouquet dies.  I also selected LOTS of Stampin’ Up!’s new revamped core colors and 2018-2020 In Colors.  I love bright, bold colors, so I had lots of fun coming up with new combinations for the flowers, leaves, and background.

For the background, I cut a piece of Shimmery White Cardstock 5″ x 3-3/4″.  Then, to create the smooched background, I used the side of my Gray Granite stamp pad to add ink directly to a Silicone Craft Sheet.  You can see by the results that I placed the lines fairly vertical.  Afterwards, I spritzed the sheet with water and then smooched the bottom section of my cardstock into the ink.  Voila … that’s how it came out!

In retrospect, I think I would have like it a little lighter.  I could have added a little more water, but I was making this up as I went along, I got what I got.

Next, I cut all the bouquet pieces out of Shimmery White Cardstock.  That included a lot of flower pieces and to be honest, I didn’t count.  Also, I ended up cutting a few into smaller pieces so it didn’t look so uniform, and that made me lose count even more.

For all the watercoloring, I used the following technique:  I painted one die at a time.  (Shimmery White Cardstock dries quickly, so you need to watercolor it fast while it’s still wet.)  First, I squeezed my ink pad to pool ink in the lid.  For the new stamp pads, they do not squeeze easily like the old ones.  (Probably because they are sealed better!)  Try squeezing the bottom, or if you are concerned about cracking your case, ditch that idea and simply press an acrylic block into your pad to gather ink.  Add a little water to the ink to prevent staining your paper.

Start by covering the whole die with clear water, and then add the various colors to blend.  (See supply list below.)

Be sure to thoroughly dry all your dies before adhering them.  I used Snail adhesive.  I was lazy and forgot to add Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets to the back of all of the dies.  I actually prefer using Snail for a project like this, because it allows me to easily manipulate pieces to get them just right.

For the sentiment, I stamped with Blackberry Bliss ink on Vellum Paper.  Then, I trimmed close.  To cut the ends, I used a Layering Oval Framelits Die as shown below.

Supplies used on my card:

Hope you have a great weekend!

I love the way you used the new colors all in one card.

Simply gorgeous, Tami! Your watercoloring and mix of colors is beautiful. These flowers really pop against the Gray Granite background. Thanks for playing along with my CASE the Designer at GDP this week.
