Hello and welcome to the February Color Fusers Blog Hop! This month, we are using a color combination of Misty Moonlight, Pool Party, and Calypso Coral. I LOVE anything blue, so this combo is right up my alley. In fact, the combination immediately made me think of the ocean, because Calypso Coral is a perfect accent color for shells, coral and fish.
For my project, I selected the Awesome Otters Sale-A-Bration Stamp Set. You can earn this set for free with a $50 qualifying purchase through the end of this month. We’re already half way through Sale-A-Bration, so I figured I needed to get some good use out of this sweet set.
I created my own “ocean” design in the background with Misty Moonlight and Pool Party Stampin’ Blends Markers and an alcohol ink technique on Vellum. If you’ve never tried this technique, it’s super fun and yields different results every time. Use the brush end of the markers to scribble on Vellum Paper. Then, use a paint brush and some 91% isopropyl rubbing alcohol to move the ink around and create abstract shapes. After my Vellum dried, I layered it over a Basic White card base to make the colors really pop.
I stamped the otters with Memento ink and colored them with every shade of neutral brown and gray Stampin’ Blend Marker available. To make the otters’ fur look more realistic, I colored with small, thin lines, so when the ink blended it appears like thick fur.
I also used blends to create my “kelp.” I took a little artistic license here and made Calypso Coral kelp (versus brown) to go with the color challenge. They are cut, along with the Vellum, with the new Sea Dies.
In the background, I used the Picture This Dies to cut all the rectangles in one shot. I love that die set! Then, I dry embossed the entire layer with the Bark 3D Embossing Folder so it appears like waves. Nature is fun … bark can look like waves. Don’t you just love that?
