Hello and welcome to the Control Freaks Blog Hop for June. This month, we are celebrating “New Catalog Goodies.” There are so many that it’s hard to choose, but if you know me, you know I love anything aquatic themed, so I decided to try out the new Seascape Bundle and Layering Diorama Dies. How fun!
Whether you just started here, or you’re already following along the blog hop and just came from Melissa Davies’ Rubber Funatics, be sure to continue on by clicking the button at the end of this post for lots more inspiration.
I made this card for my brother-in-law’s birthday, which is coming up in early July. He has had a really tough month in and out of the hospital, and I thought this might cheer him up a bit.
I started by cutting the top layers from Basic White Cardstock with the Layering Diorama Dies. Then, I used Blending Brushes to add color to the middle two layers with Pacific Point and Bermuda Bay ink. On the bottom most layer, I used Shimmerry White Cardstock, so I could use some fun watercoloring techniques.
After coloring the bottom layer with Blending Brushes, I splattered it with clear water and a Pacific Point Stampin’ Write Marker. I also stamped the sand with Sahara Sand ink, the coral with white embossing, the seaweed with Pacific Point, and the fish with Bermuda Bay ink. Then, I used a Water Painter to lightly brush over the stamped images and make them appear watercolored.
Next, I used the Sea Life Dies to cut the coral and fish from Shimmery White Cardstock and watercolored them with Mango Melody and Calypso Coral ink. I also splattered the coral with a Poppy Parade Stampin’ Write Marker for a little extra “wow” factor.
Finally, I added a sentiment using the Many Messages stamp and cut it out with the coordinating die.
