#TGIFC184 – Color Challenge

By | November 2, 2018

TGIF!!!  The color challenge at TGIF Challenges this week includes Cajun Craze, Merry Merlot, and Crumb Cake.  I love color challenges, because I NEVER would have come up with this particular combination myself, and I love being inspired to think outside the box and do something different.

To see all the designers’ projects this week using this color combination, go to the TGIF Challenges Blog.

I have a confession, Cajun Craze is not a color I use often.  I can’t really explain why, other than everyone has favorites and least favorites.  So when I saw this color challenge, I wasn’t sure what to do.  On the other hand, I REALLY love both Merry Merlot and Crumb Cake.  I thought to myself Cajun Craze is very similar to copper, so maybe I’ll try bringing copper accents into the mix, and I love the results!

In case you haven’t noticed, there is some absolutely GORGEOUS ribbon on page 29 of the Holiday Catalog called Merry Merlot & Copper 5/8″ Reversible Ribbon.  It has copper shimmer on one side, and it’s elegant and perfect for the holidays.  It was also perfect for the concept of this project!  On that same page, you can find the beautiful copper Snowflake & Stars Wire Elements that also appear on this card.

I decided to build my card around the pretty Christmas die cut from Merry Christmas to All.  I cut four of the same dies out of Merry Merlot Cardstock and glued them together to give the word height and structure.  (Use Liquid Glue applied with a Sponge Dauber or Multi-Purpose Adhesive to adhere the layers together.)  Then, I sponged Versamark ink on the bottom of the word and embossed it with Copper Stampin’ Emboss Powder.

I also used a Sponge Dauber to sponge and emboss the edges of the Cajun Craze strip of cardstock.

Finally, for some added interest, I added a strip of Crumb Cake Cardstock embossed with the Corrugated Dynamic Textured Impression Embossing Folder (TIEF) and some Joyous Noel Designer Series Paper in a Merry Merlot design.  Tip:  Before embossing with any dynamic TIEF, lightly spritz your cardstock with water to soften the fibers.

Hope you can play along with us this week at TGIF Challenges!  I’d love to see what you can come up with using these colors!
