#TGIFC558 – Color Challenge with Snowflake Kisses

Happy New Year! The design team at TGIF Challenges is starting off the year right with a gorgeous color challenge including Balmy Blue, Smoky Slate, and Highland Heather. Soft pastels work so well for winter cards, so I immediately thought of the Snowflake Kisses Bundle for my project. I also decided to bring back an “oldie but goodie” technique that includes coloring Vellum with Stampin’ Blends Markers.

I love Vellum paper and was SO EXCITED when Stampin’ Up! brought it back. On this card, I randomly colored Vellum paper with both Balmy Blue and Highland Heather Stampin’ Blends Markers. Then, I used a paint brush to splatter rubbing alcohol over the entire sheet. Tip: Let the splatter dry a bit to get the cool spotted effect. You can also add more color with the markers and redo any areas you want. It’s a super forgiving technique. I love it because it comes out different every time and results in beautiful, soft blended colors that you can layer or die-cut!

On the other half of my card, I used the Snowflake Kisses Dies to create a stencil and added Highland Heather ink to a sheet of Smoky Slate Cardstock with a Blending Brush. Then, I tore the right sides of both the Vellum and Smoky Slate layers.

I die-cut the snowflakes from both sides of Balmy Blue Two-Tone Cardstock and Basic White. Then, I used a Sponge Dauber to add a little Versamark ink to sections of the snowflakes and added white heat embossing. If too much powder sticks, simply use your fingers to gently remove some. This gives them a frosty look.

Final touches included adding a dry embossed Basic White layer using the Soft Waves 3D Embossing Folder, some Balmy Blue Sheer Ribbon, and Frosted Iridescent Dots.

I used the leftover colored Vellum paper on the inside of the card too!
