#TGIFC536 – Color Challenge

By | August 1, 2025

Happy Friday! It’s a new month and that means we have a new color challenge at TGIF Challenges. Oh boy, this one was a BIG stretch for me. I initially looked at the colors and thought oh my goodness, what am I going to do with this? It’s a combo I never would have picked in a million years, but that’s the CHALLENGE … to turn it into something fun.

To inspire myself, I picked one of my all-time favorites – the Cheers & Sips Bundle, along with a couple fun techniques to create the drink and background.

For the drink, I used Peach Pie Stampin’ Blends Markers to color a Window Sheet. Then, I flicked 91% isopropyl alcohol over the ink and let the magic happen. This is such a fun technique, and if you don’t like the initial results, just color over it and do it again. It’s very forgiving. After the ink dried, I flipped the Window Sheet over to die-cut the drink shape, along with an extra Basic White one to layer.

In the background, I cut 1/4″ strips of Country Woods Designer Series Paper. Then, I dragged the edges of the strips along a Crumb Cake ink pad and adhered them to an oversized layer of Crumb Cake Cardstock in a diagonal pattern. To make it easy to adhere, I covered the Crumb Cake Cardstock with an Adhesive Sheet. After all the strips were adhered, I die-cut the layer with a Textured Notes Die. Fun!!!

The rest of the card was fairly simple. I used Shy Shamrock Two-Tone Cardstock in the background along with the Glass & Garden Embossing Folder and a layer of On The Go Designer Series Paper. (I thought it looked tropical and went with the drink.)

I heat embossed the orange slice in white and watercolored it with Peach Pie ink. Then, I stamped the umbrella with Crumb Cake ink and used a Blender Pen to draw stripes and shade it. I also used a Blender Pen to color the tiny flowers.

I had a little bit of the layered strips leftover, so I added it to the inside of the card, along with some extra fruit die-cuts.

I slowly fell in love with this card and will be proud to give it to a friend. That’s when I know a card is a success. To see the other designers’ projects using this color combination, click over to the TGIF Challenges Blog. You can also enter our challenge at the bottom of that post.
