#TGIFC498 — Sketch Challenge with Reindeer Fun

By | November 8, 2024

Hello and happy Friday! Our TGIF Challenge this week is the sketch below. It’s a great sketch, with nice and simple lines. I just got the Reindeer Fun Bundle, and looking at the coordinating dies, I realized there was a circular die that would work perfectly for this challenge!

Last month, I took a Crafty Carrot class featuring the Reindeer Fun Bundle and got lots of great ideas. I took inspiration from both Cindy Schuster and Mikaela Titheridge when designing this card. Cindy had the great idea to back the berries with another color of cardstock and she pointed out that the dot stamp was designed to add spots to the deer, and Mikaela used Pretty In Pink on her project. Like Mikaela, I rarely use pink, but it seems to work particularly well with the colors of the deer. So I gave it a try and I love it!

The circle die-cut from this bundle cuts a hole, so that was a little problematic when adding the strips of designer series paper. I ended up adding the strips first and then die-cutting the hole. Then, to mask the area where the pines changed from white to the color of the designer series paper, I added a few Winterly Tree Top die-cuts. Those die-cuts look very similar in style of the Reindeer Fun ones, and I think it worked well. I hid the transition underneath the berries.

The strips are from Season of Green & Gold Designer Series Paper.

I stamped the deer with Stazon ink on Basic White Cardstock and watercolored them with Pecan Pie (mama deer) and Crumb Cake (baby deer) ink with a little Pretty In Pink in for the ears. I used the coordinating Reindeer Days Designer Series Paper as inspiration for painting. (I had ordered the DSP, but hadn’t received it yet when I made this card.)

The sentiment banner is from the Peaceful Season Dies. I had to mask off some of the stamped sentiment to make it fit on the banner, but I love the way the banner ties together the focal point of the card.

Here’s a peek at the inside. I stamped the trees with both Mossy Meadow and Soft Sea Foam ink.
