#TGIFC478 — Chalkboard Technique

By | June 21, 2024

Hello, and welcome to a new TGIF Challenge! This week, our theme is using the chalkboard technique. I haven’t used this technique for quite a while, and it’s one that has always been a favorite, so it was fun to be reminded. I also happened to watch a Crafty Carrot Collective tutorial by Susan Wong, where she made a waterfall card and it really inspired me! This is an old technique, but one I’d never tried before, so I thought, “why not,” I’ll give it shot with the chalkboard elements.

The chalkboard technique is quite easy; you just have to be patient, because the white craft ink takes a little while to dry! Simply stamp with white craft ink on Basic Black Cardstock. For my elements, I actually embossed the images from the Thoughtful Wishes and Tune In Stamp Sets in white and then used a sponge to add “chalky” smudges with the craft white ink. Lastly, I used a Water Painter to paint with a mixture of water and craft white ink.

To tie in the colorful background with the chalkboard elements, I added some background splatter with a Basic Black Stampin’ Blends Marker.

Once I had all my 2″ x 2″ chalkboard panels completed, I constructed my waterfall element. (The tag at the bottom is punched with an old retired tag topper.) When you pull the tag on the bottom, the panels reveal themselves one at a time. It’s pretty fun to play with!

In the background, I used Unbounded Beauty Designer Series Paper. I thought the vivid contrast of the bright colors would emphasize the chalkboard elements. I also added a Thoughtful Wishes die-cut that I watercolored with Pretty In Pink and Summer Splash ink.

Then, I used a Blending Brush to add Petunia Pop ink behind the waterfall element to make it stand out a bit more.

On the inside, I used another one of those pretty Thoughtful Wishes die-cuts.
