Welcome to a new TGIF Challenge! This week, we have a technique challenge to use your Christmas scraps. If you’re like me after the hustle and bustle of making Christmas cards, tags, treats, you have LOTS of scraps laying around, so this is the perfect challenge. Look around and use them up!
To come up with a concept, I thought of two things. First, I love patchwork backgrounds, so I thought it would be fun to integrate one into my card. Second, I had a lot of leftover One Horse Open Sleigh Designer Series Paper! I tend to hoard papers I really love, which isn’t always a good thing. This patterned paper is beautiful! I love the colors and images! I decided to pick out a bunch of sheets with blues, greens , and neutrals to make a masculine card.
To create the patchwork background, I used Deckled Rectangle Dies to cut numerous One Horse Open Sleigh DSP shapes. By slightly overlapping a few, it was easy to piece together the background. Then, I used a Deckled Circle Die to cut the central focus and Forever Forest Dies to cut the mountains and trees. The pretty woodgrain prints are included in the One Horse Open Sleigh DSP pack!
To create the trees, first I watercolored them with Pool Party, Old Olive and Mossy Meadow ink. Then, I used a Palette Knife to add white embossing paste for “snow.” There are also a few trees that are cut from Pool Party Cardstock versus watercolor paper.
On the inside of the card, I picked a scenic print and added a Tree Ring embossed die-cut that I had laying around.
The sentiments are from my favorite Christmas stamp set, Brightest Glow.
