#TGIFC416 — Sketch Challenge

By | April 14, 2023

Happy Friday!!! For this week’s TGIF Challenge, we are using the sketch below. I particularly love the rainbow background, which inspired me to create an underwater “rainbow” of blues and greens.

This card features the Beauty of the Deep Bundle (#161237) from the upcoming 2023-2024 Annual Catalog available to purchase on May 2, 2023. It was a must have for me being an ocean and water-lover. I paired it with a sentiment from the Waves of Inspiration stamp set cut out with the Waves Dies.

To create the background, I used Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper and watercolored stripes of Blueberry Bushel, Tahitian Tide, Coastal Cabana, Azure Afternoon, and Pretty Peacock ink. You’ll notice a few new and returning colors in this selection. They are all part of the new ink colors offered in the 2023-2024 Annual Catalog

Since I had just received my pre-order, I was excited to try out new color combinations. There are so many gorgeous blues! I love how well they look with my favorite 2022-2024 In Color — Tahitian Tide.

I also watercolored a scrap sheet of Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper, so I could use it to die-cut the coral. Then, I embossed the tall seaweed in white on Vellum Paper.

For the fish, I used photos of real fish for inspiration. I stamped the angel fish with Stazon ink on Basic White Cardstock and then watercolored with Daffodil Delight ink. For the two tang fish, I inked up the stamp with Daffodil Delight ink, used a Sponge Dauber to add Pumpkin Pie to the nose, huffed on the stamp to remoisten the ink, and stamped on Basic White Cardstock. Then, I used a Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker to add the eye.

The Stampin’ Write Markers in the new catalog are new and improved! They still have a brush end, which is great for adding ink directly to stamps, but the nib end is more like a felt tip, versus the old super fine tip. As a result, it was pretty easy to add the eyes to the fish

To finish off the card, I embossed the bubbles in white, added a little Tahitian Tide Baker’s Twine rope and a white on white embossed background using the large seaweed stamp from the set. I also added some Opal Rounds embellishments.
