#TGIFC362 – Color Challenge

By | April 1, 2022

Happy April Fool’s Day! It’s time for a new TGIF Color Challenge and that’s no joke:) This month, our colors include Gorgeous Grape, Granny Apple Green, and Coastal Cabana. These are all colors from the Brights Family, which is definitely my comfort zone. I love bright, happy colors especially for watercoloring.

My daughter’s birthday is coming up, and while she’s a successful, grown up young lady, she’s still my baby and “little mermaid.” In fact, I bought the Pirates & Mermaids stamp set just for her!!!

Tutorial:

  1. Cut a sheet of Waves of the Ocean DSP for the background (colored Coastal Cabana and Granny Apple Green) to measure just shy of 4″ x 5-1/4″ and adhere it to the center of a Coastal Cabana card base.
  2. Use the large Sea Die to cut out the top layer (4″ x 5-1/4″) from Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper.
  3. Watercolor the top layer very lightly with touches of Coastal Cabana and Gorgeous Grape ink. Once dry, use a Coastal Cabana Stampin’ Write Marker to flick splatter over the entire die-cut. Finally, stamp the small starfish images in the lower left corner with Coastal Cabana ink.
  4. Use the Sea Dies to cut the various seaweed and coral shapes from Granny Apple Green, Blue Foils, and Gorgeous Grape Cardstock. (Tip: Use the large die to cut some of the layering pieces and then trim off the excess.)
  5. Adhere the large watercolored die-cut to the card base (over the DSP) with Foam Adhesive Strips and then use liquid glue to tuck under and adhere the smaller seaweed and coral die-cuts.
  6. Cut three starfish from Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper and watercolor with Coastal Cabana ink. Adhere with Mini Dimensionals.
  7. Stamp the mermaid with Versamark ink on Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper and emboss in gold. Cut out with Paper Snips. Watercolor with Petal Pink, Gorgeous Grape, Granny Apple Green, and Bermuda Bay ink.
  8. Use the Layering Circles Dies to cut a circle from Gorgeous Grape Cardstock. Adhere with liquid glue and Dimensionals (so it lays flat) and then add the mermaid with Dimensionals.
  9. Stamp the sentiment with Versamark Ink on Gold Metallic Specialty Paper and emboss in white. Trim close and notch the ends with a Banners Pick-A-Punch. Curl with a Bone Folder.
  10. Tie a bow with Linen Thread and attach with a Mini Glue Dot. Adhere the sentiment over the bow with Dimensionals.
  11. Add Pebbles Enamel Shapes and Waves Rhinestone Jewels to decorate.

I adore the Waves of the Ocean Designer Series Paper and coordinating Blue Foils Paper and Waves Rhinestone Jewels. I thought they were the perfect choice for this card. No need to watercolor a background when I’ve got this beautiful paper on hand.
