Happy March and welcome to a new TGIF Color Challenge! This month, our color combination includes Magenta Madness, Soft Suede, and Bumblebee. I have to be honest, when I first saw this color combination, I wasn’t thrilled. It’s definitely not one I would have selected on my own. But, I have to hand it to Mercedes Weber, who creates our TGIF challenges. She’s really knows what she’s doing, and I ended up loving my card!
My first thought was to create something vintage, as these colors look old-fashioned to me. So I scanned my stash and noticed the Calming Camellia Host Stamp Set that I earned during Sale-A-Bration. I never got around to using it, which was a crying shame, because it’s a beautiful stamp set! I thought it just might work for this challenge.
I stamped the floral image with Soft Suede ink on Crumb Cake Cardstock and then used a Blender Pen and to add Magenta Madness ink to the flowers. I actually dipped the tip of the pen straight into the ink pad to get super saturated color. Then, I used a White Watercolor Pencil to highlight the edges of the petals and leaves. I totally love how this turned out!
Then, I cut out my flowers with a Layering Circle Die and layered it over a second one cut from Soft Suede Cardstock and dry embossed with the Hive 3D Embossing Folder.
Next, I picked a sheet of Expressions In Ink Designer Series Paper, printed with Magenta Madness and gold designs, and used a Blending Brush to add Bumblebee ink to the right side. The ink really enhanced the gold highlights and added to the vintage look I was working to achieve.
To finish my card, I added a few more layers including a strip of Magenta Madness Cardstock that I stamped with Craft White ink, a strip of Bumblebee Cardstock that I cut with a Tropical Layers border die, and some Basic White Tropical Layers die-cuts to break up the dark colors. Final touches were some iridescent sequins from the Expressions In Ink Ephemera Pack and a bow tied with Simply Elegant Trim.
For the sentiment, I used a label from the new Waves Dies. I LOVE the labels from that set!!!
So after finishing my card, I have to admit that I actually like this color combination and was very pleased with how my card turned out. Yay, challenge accepted!
