Welcome back to a new TGIF Challenge! This week, the theme is “Summer Vibes.” That’s perfect … we just passed the Summer Solstice a week ago and it’s been 100 degree or more every day this week. I love our hot, dry California weather. It’s perfect for swimming, boating and water skiing!!! I’m totally in the mood for “Summer Vibes.”
I’ve been playing with the Seaside View stamp set and thought I’d try something a little different. This time, I’m using Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper (versus Shimmery White Cardstock) and a color combination of trendy In Colors.
I love watercoloring, especially playing with water effects. Every time I make a new attempt, I think of something new I could try the next time.
The first time I tried watercoloring with the new In Colors, I noticed that the inks are a bit oilier than our Classic inks and didn’t work well with Shimmery White Cardstock. I had unexpected spots and trouble spreading the ink evenly. So I thought I’d try watercolor paper instead, and it worked so much better!
I started by using a Stamparatus to stamp the main scene with Stazon ink. That way, I could stamp multiple times in the same place and ensure adequate coverage. Then, I used the new Water Painters to watercolor the image, starting with quick washes and then adding more saturated color for shadows and detail. I like to squeeze my ink pads to pool ink in the lids. I used the following colors:
- Ocean: Misty Moonlight, Seaside Spray, and Pretty Peacock
- Sky: Pretty Peacock
- Chairs and Table: Magenta Madness & Sahara Sand
- Deck and Fence: Smoky Slate
- Rug: Misty Moonlight
- Palms and Shrubbery: Pear Pizzazz , Shaded Spruce, Just Jade and Sahara Sand
To finish the card, I created a splattered background using the new Tasteful Textiles 3D Embossing Folder and a few In The Tropics Die Cuts.
