I love discovering new coloring techniques! This weekend, I was playing around with the new Pigment Sprinkles. You can find them on page 179 of the Annual Catalog. They come in a box of six colors, and they are highly concentrated color crystals in powder form. To activate, just add a little water and watch with wonder at what happens!
All my examples below, except the bottom, right use one color of Pigment Sprinkles. The Mango Melody (center, right, top) and Daffodil Delight (center, left, bottom) look similar in the photo, but are actually quite different. All of the “colors” have multiple pigments when spritzed, which is the coolest thing about them.
There are numerous ways to use Pigment Sprinkles. I choose to focus on two techniques. All of my examples use Watercolor Paper. For some (the more blended versions), I spritzed the paper with water first, sprinkled on the color, used an Aqua Painter to blend a little, and then spritzed again with water. For others (the ones that show more spray), I sprinkled the dry powder on Watercolor paper and then spritzed with water. All I can say, is play around, because every time, it’s going to look different! It’s SOOO fun!!!
Tips: The bottles come with three holes on top. However, the powder comes out way too fast. I used tape to cover two of the holes and even half of the third to slow things down. Also, the more water you add, the more the colors blend, so I suggest creeping up on the amount of water. This technique is MESSY (which is half the fun!), so if you don’t want to get the colors on everything else, use paper towels on your work surface, watch what’s in the line of fire with your spritzer, clean your work surface thoroughly afterwards, and wash your hands. After the Watercolor Paper air dried, I even used a dry paper towel to knock off the excess crystals.
I set aside most of the backgrounds I created for future projects, but couldn’t wait to use at least one! I decided to create a card for this week’s TGIF Challenge using ribbon ruffles.
I used the new Royal Peacock stamp set and coordinating Detailed Peacock Dies to decorate my card.
I cut the dies from the Noble Peacock Foil Sheets, Watercolor Paper, and Old Olive Perennial Essence Vellum Cardstock. Then, I used ink pool in my ink pads to watercolor the dies on the tail.
To add the ruffles, I placed a strip of Tear & Tape Adhesive down first. Then, I manipulated the ribbon where I wanted it.
Be sure to check out all the designers projects with ruffled ribbon this week at the TGIF Challenge Blog. Have a wonderful and creative day.
