#TGIFC216 — Sketch Challenge

By | June 14, 2019

It’s Friday, and that means a new TGIF Challenge! This week, we have a fun sketch, so I decided to break out my brand new Above the Clouds stamp set! Wahoo!!!

The challenge sketch layout is below. It’s nice and simple, leaving room for interpretation. I decided to change the layout to landscape, size down my banner proportionately, and change the shape of the punch.

The Above the Clouds stamp set was created with two-step stamping in mind. It has outline stamps, as well as “watercolor” style stamps to fill in the balloons. Rather than using the two-step stamping approach, I decided to simply stamp the outlines and watercolor the balloons with different colors. This stamp set also has a coordinating punch, which you can purchase in a bundle for 10% off! The punch cuts out the large balloon, basket, and a pennant shape.

I love looking for ways to combine stamps. My mind immediately went to an image of a group of balloons soaring over the trees. And that’s what made me think of stamping a background using the Waterfront stamp set.

I started with a layer of Watercolor Paper and painted a quick wash with Balmy Blue ink to create the sky.

Next, I stamped the lightest trees with Pear Pizzazz ink. Before continuing, I used an Aqua Painter to lightly paint over the stamped trees with clear water and blend the ink. Next, I stamped another row of trees with Old Olive ink and blended again. Finally, I added a row of Mossy Meadow trees. This time, I did not blend the ink so the trees appeared more defined.

I stamped some of the smaller balloons directly onto the background and the rest on a separate piece of Watercolor Paper with Stazon Ink. After watercoloring them, I either cut them out by hand or used the coordinating punch.

I created my “banner” with a couple Stitched Nested Dies. I straightened off the top of one with a Stampin’ Trimmer, and then added stitching with the border die. On the bottom, I used the die cut to make a “V” as shown below. Then, I seamed the two dies together underneath the Basic Black circle die for the appearance of one long, continuous die.

This is a great stamp set, with lots of inspiring sentiments. It’s definitely one I’ll be using multiple times!!!
