Welcome to the May Stamping Sunday Blog Hop. This month, our theme is “Something Old, Something New.” We can interpret that to mean old and new products or even a wedding-themed project. So this should be fun!
I decided to mix old and new products, because I have so many fun, new things to play with, and I was dying to try them out! I ended up combining the Country Flowers Bundle with one of my favorite retired trims — Natural Wavy Trim.
This card is inspired by Cindy Schuster from The Crafty Carrot Collective. I watched her class earlier this week, and she designed a darling card with a barn door, layers of leaves and flowers, a cute handle on her jug planter, and a sentiment on a pick. I changed all the colors, added my style of watercoloring, used a different sheet of the Country Woods Designer Series Paper, and changed the design of the barn door. I also changed the sentiment to one from the coordinating Country Birdhouse Stamp Set. (If you didn’t notice, the fonts on the two stamp sets in the Country Woods Suite are the same and can mix and match!)
I highly recommend the Crafty Carrot Co. classes. I’ve been a paper crafter for over 20 years and a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator for over 10 years, but I still learn new tricks and techniques every time I watch one. I really admire each and every one of them!
I looked on the internet for examples of barn doors and found this cool herringbone design. I ended up cutting 1/4″ strips of the Pool Party colored Country Woods DSP and then dragging the edges along my Crumb Cake ink pad so the slats would be more visible. I love how it turned out! I adhered the slats onto two layers of cardstock (one for each door) and then used Foam Adhesive Strips to pop-up the frame.
For my leaves, I pre-painted Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper with Shaded Spruce, Shy Shamrock, and Granny Apple Green ink. I painted two panels, one much darker than the other, and then used them to cut out all the leaves. The darker panel makes the layers stand out more.
For the flowers, I cut them out of Basic White Cardstock and then watercolored the centers with Fresh Freesia ink.
The jug itself is stamped with Jet Black Stazon ink on Basic White and watercolored with Crumb Cake ink. Then, I used the coordinating die to cut a little handle from Country Woods DSP. Finally, I added a little Wavy Trim to the jug just to fancy it up a bit.
For the plant pick, I embossed the sentiment in white on Basic Black Cardstock and then cut it out with a Countryside Corners Die. The die was a little too long, so I used a partial die-cutting technique to shorten it.
The inside includes some of my leftovers.
