This month, our theme for Stampin’ Fancy Friday is Earth Tones. Now that’s something fun and different. I was pretty excited about this for a couple reasons. First, I think neutrals are seriously underrated, because I’ve see some gorgeous projects lately. Second, I have LOTS of guy birthday cards to make for September, so the timing is perfect!
To see all the designers’ projects, keep an eye on the Stampin’ Fancy Friday Facebook and Instagram pages throughout the month. We’d also love to see any of your projects using our theme! Be sure to tag them with @stampinfancyfriday so we can find and admire them!
I designed this birthday card for my husband using the In The Grove Bundle. I love a good nature set, and this one is beautiful. It reminds me of backpacking trips my husband and I took all over the Sierra Nevada Mountains. I know he’ll love it! I particularly love the aspen tree window die-cut.
I used an oversized card base from the Memories & More Cards & Envelopes. That way, I had a little more room in the background for the strips of Country Woods Designer Series Paper. I also used the new Birch 3D Embossing Folder from the September-December Mini Catalog.
To create the landscape background, I started by lightly watercoloring the sky with Pool Party ink on Basic White Cardstock. After die-cutting a couple of the mountain pieces (so I could stretch them across the entire horizon), I stamped the mountains with Jet Black Stazon ink and watercolored them with both Gray Granite and just a touch of Pool Party ink.
For the trees, I pre-painted some Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper with Mossy Meadow and Pecan Pie ink, although you can’t see much of the Pecan Pie. I spliced the die-cut so I could cut a longer piece. This is pretty easy. Just cut, then align the die with one side and cut again.
For the meadow, I inked up the bottom half of the stamp with Basic Beige ink and the top with Wild Wheat ink. Then, I took a Sponge Dauber and applied Wild Wheat ink to the center of the red rubber to soften the transition from one color to the other. Afterwards, I gave the stamp a huff and stamped on Basic White Cardstock.
To really make the birch tree window stand out, I backed the edges with Foam Adhesive Strips.
The sentiment is from the Everyday Greetings Stamp Set (an Online Exclusive.) This is a great all-occasion stamp set! What’s even better is there is a coordinating Greetings Of The Season Bundle with holiday sentiments and dies that coordinated with BOTH stamp sets! I used one of the dies to cut out the BIRTHDAY and fussy cut Wishes from Pecan Pie Cardstock.
For the bow, I used the Natural Tones Linen Thread available in the new Mini Catalog.
The inside is rather simple for right now. I’m still thinking about whether I might add something. What do you think?
Have a wonderful and creative day!
