Today, I’m playing with the Royal Peacock stamp set. This stamp set coordinates with a whole suite of GORGEOUS dies, designer papers, and embellishments on pages 24 to 26 of the 2019 Annual Catalog.
The Royal Peacock stamps and coordinating Detailed Peacock Dies are so versatile. There are numerous ways to stamp and color them, but if you know me, you know I love to watercolor. So, I have two stamping techniques to share today for watercoloring the peacock.
Now I could have simply stamped the peacock with Stazon ink and watercolored, but I really wanted to stamp in color, so that posed a slight problem. How could I stamp and watercolor without smearing the ink too much?
On this first card, I decided to simply try stamping in color and then using a very dry brush to watercolor. I think it turned out pretty well, most likely because the colors blended together well. I stamped the peacock using Blueberry Bushel ink on Shimmery White Cardstock. Then, cut it out with the coordinating die and watercolored with Granny Apple Green and Bermuda Bay ink.
Next, I used my Stamparatus to line up the two-step stamping detail on the tail, stamped it with Versamark ink and embossed in gold.
Tip: Before stamping with the Versamark, I rubbed an Embossing Buddy over the entire peacock to remove static. Otherwise, the embossing powder may have stuck to the Blueberry Bushel stamp and watercoloring.
Lastly, I finished off my card with lots of layers and die cuts, showcasing the beautiful foil sheets and Noble Peacock Specialty Designer Series Paper from the suite. Since I used gold embossing, I decided to toss in some dies cut from Perennial Essence Vellum, as well as some Metallic Pearls.
For my next card, I used a slightly different stamping technique. To allow me to watercolor without smearing the stamped image, I sealed the peacock with clear embossing. This is one of the great advantages of the Stamparatus. It allowed me to stamp the peacock with Granny Apple Green ink and then stamp over the image (exactly) with Versamark ink. The clear embossing powder sticks to the Versamark, and after it’s heated, locks the ink in place.
Afterwards, I could watercolor the peacock with as much water as I wanted! This time, I used Blueberry Bushel, Bermuda Bay and Granny Apple Green to watercolor.
I stamped and embossed the small flowers using a similar method.
To decorate the tail, I used foil dies and Noble Peacock Rhinestones.
Hope these cards inspire you. I created them to participate in the Stamping Through the Catalog Challenge for this week on Facebook and Instagram. You can find all the entries by searching and following #sttcchallenge.
