Easter is coming soon! So last weekend, I worked on finishing up my Easter cards. I really didn’t buy any Easter specific stamp sets this year, but flowers always work well. Plus, I really wanted to play with my new Ornate Garden Suite products some more.
I used both the Ornate Style and Ornate Thanks stamp sets on the two cards I’m sharing today. The Ornate Style stamp set has a gorgeous large floral stamp that’s super fun to color, and I’ll share two techniques for coloring. The Ornate Thanks stamp set is geared towards thank you cards, but I noticed that the sentiment “SO GRATEFUL” has all the letters needed to spell “EASTER” so I cut it up and did a word scramble! When there’s a will, there’s a way!!!
For this first card, I used some Ornate Garden Specialty Designer Series Paper in the background. It’s printed white with gold foil. Then, I simply used Sponge Daubers to add Bermuda Bay and Coastal Cabana ink.
For the flowers, I tried a no-line coloring technique with Stampin’ Blends Markers. This technique is great for stampers who want to take their time and discover their inner artist. I stamped the image with Sahara Sand ink (stamped off once so it was very light.) Then, I colored the entire image, including the background with the Stampin’ Blends Markers listed below.
I approached the coloring a little differently than normal. I mostly used the brush tip and started with the very lightest colors first and then added coordinating darker colors working towards the shadows. I didn’t worry about blending the colors, but instead adding multiple layers of color for definition.
For the sentiment, I stamped and embossed “SO GRATEFUL” multiple times in white on Pretty Peacock Cardstock. I had to do it multiple times, because I ended up destroying some of the letters I needed while cutting out others. Then, I added all the letters to a strip of Vellum to make it easier to position onto my card. (The Happy stamp is from Well Said.)
My second card uses a much easier coloring technique. I stamped and embossed the large floral stamp in white on Vellum Cardstock. Then, I used Stampin’ Write Markers to color the backside of the Vellum.
This technique is super forgiving. This time, I suggest starting with the darkest colors and working towards the lighter ones. The Vellum is like painting on a window, so the first color you use is the one you’ll see the most.
I used all the colors below on my card:
Stampin’ Up! started weekly challenges to encourage everyone to keep stamping during the pandemic, and Stamping Challenge #1 is to use all or a combination of any of the colors shown above including: Terracotta Tile, Grapefruit Grove, Mango Melody, Daffodil Delight, Coastal Cabana, and Bermuda Bay. The challenge is open to both demonstrators and customers. So design your own project and post it with the hashtag: #keepstamping
I again used the “SO GRATEFUL” sentiment to create the word EASTER on my card. But this time, I used the following Stampin’ Write Markers to color the stamp directly before stamping on Shimmery White Cardstock: Terracotta Tile, Grapefruit Grove, and Mango Melody.
For the “happy,” I stacked a couple Well Written Dies cut from Shimmery White and Bermuda Bay Cardstock.
I really love the entire Ornate Garden Suite of products. So many ideas … so pretty!!! Stay tuned for an Easter gift box later this week.
Have a great day!
