Color Fusers Blog Hop – January 2021

By | January 4, 2021

Hello and Happy New Year! Welcome to the first Color Fusers Blog Hop of 2021! Wahoo!!! This month, we have a bright color combination including Mango Melody, Melon Mambo, Garden Green, and Pacific Point. When I saw it, I immediately thought of bright flowers and a gorgeous blue background.

For my card, I used the new Art Gallery Bundle (156227 for $50.25 USD) on page 34 of the January-June Mini Catalog. I love, love, love the watercolor style of these stamps. It’s perfect for my favorite technique of “watercolor stamping.”

The January-June Mini Catalog goes live tomorrow when these products will be available to purchase at my online store.

Watercolor Stamping Technique:

To achieve this technique, I ink up the stamp with one or two colors and then use a Water Painter to brush water directly onto the stamp prior to stamping. The technique works best on Shimmery White Cardstock, which is what I used here, but you can also use watercolor or white cardstock for different effects. To add multiple colors to stamps, I use the edge of my ink pad to ink half the stamp at a time.

For the multiple flowers in the front, I used a slightly different technique. I inked up the flowers with Mango Melody and the stems with Garden Green, and then I used a Sponge Dauber to add Melon Mambo ink to the base of the flowers. After stamping, I brushed over the stamped image with a Water Painter to blend the colors.

Gilded Leafing Embellishment:

I’m sure you noticed the gorgeous Gilded Leafing Embellishment (154560 for $9.00 USD) on some of the flowers and background. This is probably my favorite new embellishment! You can find it on page 33 of the January-June Mini Catalog, along with Heat & Stick Powder (156110 for $6.00.) Use these two products together to add gold leaf to stamped images. I will be including a demonstration in my next online class to be announced soon!

Here are a few quick tips about the Gilded Leafing. It ‘s super light, expands, and has a tendency to want to fly and stick to anything and everything!!! I emptied the original jar into a 9″ x 7″ container and I’ve dedicated an old paint brush to use for all my projects. That way, I don’t have to worry about cleaning the brush and I can dip my projects into this container and minimize the mess. The Gilded Leafing will attach to anything sticky, including images stamped and embossed with Heat & Stick Powder, glue and tape. It’s super fun to use and looks amazing! The possibilities are endless!!!

Background:

For the background of my card, I used three die cuts using the Stitched Shapes and Stitched Rectangle Dies. The top two are cut from Shimmery White Cardstock and watercolored with Pacific Point ink, and the bottom one is cut from A Whale of a Time 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper. To add Gilded Leafing to the top die cut, I mixed a little water with some Multipurpose Liquid Glue and used an old paint brush to splatter the die cut. Afterwards, I slightly heated the glue to make it tacky and then added the Gilded Leafing.

This card also includes some other great new products: 1) Painted Texture 3D Embossing Folder (154317 for $9.00 USD) and Fine Art 3/8″ Ribbon (154561 for $7.50 USD.)
