Hello, and welcome to the September Color Fusers Blog Hop! I participate in this blog hop on the first Monday of each month, along with a great group of fellow demonstrators, to share different project ideas using the same color combination. This month, the colors include Rococo Rose, Merry Merlot, Night of Navy, and Mossy Meadow.
If you’re already following through the blog hop, then you’ve just come from the talented Kelly Acheson. If you’re just starting, get ready to be inspired! You can follow along using the buttons below or the list of designers’ links.
For my project, I used a stamp set called Snow Front. You can order this set from the new Holiday Catalog in two days on September 4th when the catalog goes live!!! When I first saw this stamp set, my eyes just about popped out of my head. It’s very similar to the Waterfront stamp set, which is one of my all-time favorites.
I thought the color combination might work to create a rustic scene with a sunset, so that’s exactly what I set out to do. Plus, I had an ulterior motive. My husband’s birthday is coming up. He loves the mountains, so I figured this would be a perfect card for him.
The used Watercolor Paper for the main panel. It has a “rustic” texture, plus it’s a perfect choice for a technique I call watercolor stamping. This technique involves stamping the image and then using an Aqua Painter to slightly blend the ink. It takes a little practice to determine how much water to use, but once you get the hang of it, it’s a snap! I love how the end result looks like a watercolor painting!!!
I started by stamping the mountains with Night of Navy ink (stamped off once on scratch paper to lighten the ink.) Then, I carefully ran my Aqua Painter over the stamped image. It helps to have paper towels nearby to clean excess ink off the brush, so the brush doesn’t pick up too much color and obscure the stamped image. After finishing each color, I used a Heat Tool to make sure the paper was good and dry before moving on to the next color.
Next, I used an Aqua Painter to create a watercolor wash for the sky. I used diluted Merry Merlot on the top and Rococo Rose on the bottom. To create the clouds, I let the paper dry before adding a second layer. I also stamped a very faint image of the sunset reflecting on a frozen lake, by stamping off Rococo Rose two times and then blending with an Aqua Painter.
After that, I stamped the trees with Mossy Meadow ink. For the trees in the background, I stamped off once, and for the trees in the foreground, I stamped full strength. Again, I used an Aqua Painter to blend the ink.
I added a few neutral colors to the color combination to complete my scene, including Crumb Cake ink (stamped off once) for the ground and Soft Suede ink for the deer.
Continuing with the rustic theme, I embossed the bottom panel of the card with the Pinewood Planks 3D Embossing Folder and then lightly sponged it with Crumb Cake ink to bring out the detail of the embossing. Some nice Denim Ribbon was the final touch.
On the inside of the card, I created another little mini watercolor scene. I’m just loving this stamp set and all the possibilities!!!
