Two posts in one morning? Yep, it’s true! Once a month, both the Color Fuser’s Blog Hop and What Will You Stamp? challeng will happen on the same day. Maybe, I’ll get smart next month and combine the two challenges!!! Haha!
If you are already following the Color Fusers Blog Hop, then you’ve just come from the talented Beverlee Morales. If you’re just starting, you’re in for a treat! Follow the Next button below to Bonnie O’Neill’s fabulous project. You can also refer to the list below of the entire Design Team.
The colors for September are sooo pretty! All three are current favorites of mine, and in combination, they are just striking! I’m so excited to see what all the design team members have created.
September is a BIG birthday month in my family, so I decided to use this great color combo for a special birthday card for my son! He’s going to be turning 24, and during a recent visit, we took him wine tasting in Lodi. Lodi is a little hidden gem in the Central Valley of California that has really turned into quite a wine mecca. My husband and I love taking our friends and family there to go wine tasting, because it’s basically in our backyard, and it’s really reasonably priced for the quality of wines produced. I thought this card would remind my son of the fun experience.
For my card, I used the Half Full stamp set and Happy Birthday Thinlits Die. I took some artistic license here, because of the color combo. Lodi is know for it’s Zinfandels, which are obviously red. But hey, I think Blackberry Bliss works too!!!
I played with a few fun techniques on this card. First, I layered Happy Birthday thinlits dies numerous times to create a fun embellishment. I cut it four times using Blackberry Bliss Cardstock and then once using Watercolor paper. After watercoloring the top layer with all three colors, I used Multi-Purpose Adhesive to glue all the layers together to create a nice, substantial decoration for my card. Then, I pressed the entire face of the layered die cut into Versamark Ink and embossed it in clear two times. I was quite happy with the glossy results.
Next, I stamped the wine glasses and grapes (part of the tag) with Stazon Ink on Watercolor Paper. Then, I used an Aqua Painter to watercolor the elements with all three colors (using a photo of a glass of wine as inspiration for good shading and highlights.) To make my glasses look shiny, I used a similar technique to the Happy Birthday embellishment. I cut out the pieces with scissors, and then pressed them into Versamark ink and embossed them in clear. For the grapes, I cut them out and then used a Fine-Tip Glue Pen to add drops of clear glue on top of the grapes and give them both a shine and 3-D look.
Tip: Don’t use the Fine-Tip Glue Pen to add shine to the glasses. I tried that and it was an epic fail! The glue mixed up all my pretty watercoloring, and basically ruined it. I had to do them all again:(
I really wish the shine showed up better in the photos. It’s very cool looking in real life.
For the background papers, I used a hodgepodge of different designer series paper packs. I got the Blueberry Bushel layer from the 2017-2019 In Color pack, the Gray Granite layer from Twinkle Twinkle and the Blackberry Bliss from Nature’s Poem. I even added some dimension to the Twinkle Twinkle DSP by embossing it with the new Corrugated Dynamic Textured Impression Embossing Folder. (Available to purchase in the new Holiday Catalog on September 5th!) I wasn’t really sure if that would work, since the core of the DSP is white, but I decided to try it and see. I spritzed the paper lightly before running it through the Big Shot. You can see that some of the white core shows through, but I liked the end result!
Before adhering the glasses and grapes, I gave them a little curl with my bone folder for dimension.
You may notice that very cool Braided Linen Trim. It is another new product that is available in the Holiday Catalog. It’s easily frayed and adds great texture and interest to projects. I’m totally in love with it!
