Color Fusers Blog Hop for October 2018

By | October 1, 2018

Welcome to the October Color Fusers Blog Hop!  This month, we have colors that are perfect for Fall … warm tones that make me think of changing leaves and cooler temperatures.  If you’re already following the blog hop, you’ve just come from the talented Debbie Henderson.  Follow the Next button below to continue on to Paola Phillips for more amazing inspiration.  I’ve also included links to all the designers’ blogs at the bottom of this post.

Since this month’s colors made me think of trees, I decided to break out my Rooted In Nature stamp set.  The trees in this stamp set are very realistic-looking, with lots of detail.  They are perfect for masculine cards, which is what I needed.

To stamp the tree, I used my Stamparatus to stamp with different colored Stampin’ Write Markers on Shimmery White Cardstock.   I started by using the brush end of the Crushed Curry marker to color directly onto the rubber of my stamp.  I only colored the highlights.  After stamping, I blended the ink slightly with an Aqua Painter.  Since I had the stamp attached to my Stamparatus, I could continue to add more colors to the tree and stamp in the exact same place.  Next, I used a Calypso Coral marker to add slight shadows.  After stamping, I blended again with an Aqua Painter.  Then, I added Granny Apple Green and finally Cajun Craze ink with markers using the same technique.  I blended a little less with these colors, and finally I tried to just color the branches with a Cajun Craze Stampin’ Write Marker.  I love the results!  It looks painted and very artistic.  It took a little practice at first, but honestly it was much easier than it looks.

Afterwards, I very carefully cut the tree out with the coordinating Natures Roots Framelits Dies.

I’m really loving Shimmer Paint right now, so even though this is a masculine card, I added a few highlights to the embossed leaves and background with a Sponge Dauber.

For the background, I watercolored a wash with Cajun Craze and Calypso Coral ink.  Then, while the paper was still damp, I embossed it with the Subtle Textured Impression Embossing Folder.

Since this is a color challenge, I really wanted to show that I used all four colors.  Cajun Craze stands out, because I used it for the large tree ring stamp, leaves, and sentiment.  But to really tie in the other three colors, I decided to watercolor slim strips of Shimmery White Cardstock as an accent.

Hope you like my card!  Follow the buttons below to navigate through the Color Fusers Blog Hop.
