By | May 6, 2019

Hello and welcome to the May 2019 Color Fusers Blog Hop! If you are already following along, then you’ve just come from the fabulous Barb Mullikin. If you’re just starting, then be sure to continue on for more color inspiration! All the projects feature the following colors: Pear Pizzazz, Night of Navy, and Grapefruit Grove.

I’ve also designed my project to coincide with the What Will You Stamp? Challenge Blog, which is featuring the Butterfly Gala stamp set this week. So I’ve got my colors, and I’ve got my stamp set … let’s see what I came up with!

The Butterfly Gala stamp set and coordinating Butterfly Duet Punch will both be carrying over into the new Annual Catalog in June. I’m so happy, because I really love this stamp set, particularly all the pretty wing designs. They are perfect for coloring!!!

My concept was to create a field of pretty colored butterflies. I started out by watercoloring a custom background with Pear Pizzazz ink on Shimmery White Cardstock. First, I painted a quick watercolor wash. Then, I decided to get fancy and added lots of water and ink splatters. The more I added, the more I like it, so I just kept going until I had lots of color variegation. Afterwards, I layered some Well Written die cuts on top.

The butterflies are embossed in either white or Grapefruit Grove on Shimmery White Cardstock. After stamping and embossing the wings, I punched them out, and THEN I added the butterfly bodies. By doing this, it’s easier to position the bodies in the right place.

Tips: When stamping the bodies, place the punched butterfly on a colored piece of cardstock so it’s easy to see the outline of the shape. Also, when embossing the bodies, use a Paper Piercer to hold down the paper while adding heat. The heat will soften the original embossing of the butterfly, so you need to be careful not the touch it. (Trust me, I always learn the hard way!!! Ha!)

Next, I used an Aqua Painter to add a quick wash of clear water and then add ink colors. The embossing resists the color for some really beautiful effects. Note: Because Grapefruit Grove does not mix well with either Pear Pizzazz or Night of Navy, I recommend letting the other colors dry and keeping it separate to avoid making mud.

For final touches, I unraveled some white baker’s twine to create antennas, stamped the sentiment on vellum, and added some pretty Grapefruit Grove Faceted Dots.

Hope you enjoyed my card. Be sure to check out the What Will You Stamp? Challenge Blog to see the other designers’ projects using the Butterfly Gala stamp set, and continue on to Jo Anne’s post and the other Color Fusers Blog Hop designers to see their amazing creations using this color combo.
