Color Fusers Blog Hop for August 2018

By | August 6, 2018

Welcome to the August Color Fusers Blog Hop!  This Blog Hop happens on the first Monday of each month, featuring a different color combination.  If you’re already following along the hop this month, you’ve just come from Sarah Wills’ blog; and if you’re just starting, get ready to be inspired by clicking on the links below!  It’s so fun to see all the creative and completely different projects this group comes up with using the same five colors.

At the bottom of this post, you’ll see links to all the designers’ blogs, as well as buttons to follow the hop to the next post.

When I first saw all these bright, happy colors, I immediately thought of flowers and summer!  In fact, my backyard is awash with these colors right now!!!  I decided to dig up an “oldie but goodie” stamp set — Falling Flowers.  This set is one of my all-time favorites, because it has flowers I can color plus a beautiful swirl.

I decided to make my card with a black background so the bright colors really popped!  I started out by stamping and embossing the swirl and several leaf stamps in the background in white.  Then, I used a Craft White Ink Refill and an Aqua Painter to watercolor some of the leaves.

You’ll notice that I also added some Pick A Pattern Washi Tape to the background to add a subtle design.  I love using this particular washi tape with Basic Black Cardstock; it’s just gorgeous!

Next, I stamped and embossed the flower and leaf die cuts in white on Shimmery White Cardstock and watercolored them with Call Me Clover, Gorgeous Grape, Lovely Lipstick, Mango Melody, and Pineapple Punch ink.  Afterwards, I cut them out with the coordinating May Flowers Framelits Dies.

Tips for watercoloring:  Either place a drop of ink refill in the lid of your ink pad or, while the ink pad is closed, turn it upside down and press in the center to gather ink on the lid.  Use your Aqua Painter to add a small amount of water to the ink.  Start painting by first covering the section with clear water, and then adding a bit of ink to let it bleed.  I like to color small sections at a time, and then go back and add more concentrated color for contrast.  The embossing acts as a dam to hold the water in place and enables you to create some gorgeous water effects.

For a few of the leaves, I simply used the May Flowers Framelits Dies to cut them out of Shimmery White Cardstock, and then I watercolored the dies with Call Me Clover and Pineapple Punch ink.

As a final touch, I added some Pearl Basic Jewels to the center of the flowers and along one swirl.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  I encourage you to follow through the blog hop next to Bonnie O’Neill, and then continue on for additional inspiration from some truly talented ladies.  Click on the buttons below to move forward or backward, or use the links below to go straight to the individual designers’ blogs.
