Hello! I’m Tami Hewlett from California, USA, and today I’m sharing cards I designed for the February Artisan Design Team Showcase featuring the Flowering Rain Boots Bundle. Be sure to go to the Stampin’ Up! Facebook page and check out all the artisans’ projects featuring this fun bundle.
The Flowering Rain Boots Bundle includes the Flowering Rain Boots Cling Stamps and Rain Boots Dies. The stamps are what I call a “watercolor” style, meaning they appear watercolored with lots of built in shading. This bundle is perfect for Spring-themed cards, especially for anyone who loves gardening.
Live Life in Full Bloom:
For my first card, I created a pretty Spring scene with faux grass created from ribbon. I wanted to really show off those beautiful tulips. Fun fact: Tulips are my favorite flower. I absolutely adore them!
I had a great idea to create faux grass on this card! At least I thought it was great:) I trimmed off a narrow strip from the top of some White Frayed Ribbon and then pulled out several strands. Afterwards, I colored the ribbon with Shaded Spruce and Granny Apple Green Stampin’ Blends Markers. Isn’t this fun?
I have a few tips on using this style of “watercolor” stamps. First, I find I get a much better stamped image when I prepare my ink pad by using a plastic spoon to push the ink away from the center of the pad and towards the edges. This is especially helpful for very new or “juicy” pads.
Next, and this is just a personal preference, I like to stamp on Shimmery White Cardstock and then enhance the watercolored look of the stamps by using a Water Painter to paint over the stamped image with a barely wet brush in order to blend the image. For this card, I even added some additional shading with different ink colors. For example, I stamped the leaves and stems with Garden Green ink and then I added some Granny Apple Green ink with my Water Painter. For the darker tulips, I stamped with Melon Mambo and added both Blushing Bride and Poppy Parade ink.
In the background of this card, I used a layer of In Good Taste Designer Series Paper that I dry embossed with the Painted Texture 3D Embossing Folder. I also used a Stitched Rectangle die-cut from Shimmery White Cardstock that I watercolored with Pacific Point and Balmy Blue ink.
The final touch was a few Silver Epoxy Essentials drops on the watering can.
Rain or Shine, I’m Here For You:
For my next card, I designed a card centered around the rain boots. I used similar techniques to stamp and watercolor the images.
This time, I added the seed packet stamped with Basic Gray ink and watercolored with Crushed Curry, Garden Green and Granny Apple Green ink. I also die-cut the gardening tool from Silver Foil.
Another one of my favorite elements in this bundle is the pretty lattice die-cut!
