Welcome to 7 Days of Scrapbooking – a celebration of documenting with some of my #ArtisanAlumni friends and I. Check my blog and Facebook and Instagram stories for memory-keeping inspiration from June 1st-7th.
This is going to be so much fun!!! I really needed this incentive to pull out some of my favorite photos from the past several years and give them some love. When my kids were growing up, I scrapbooked all the time and loved it. But as time went by and they moved out of the house, became busy with their own lives, and there were less photos, I changed my focus to cards. I really needed this push to get back into it.
To me, the most important element of scrapbooking is really good photo. I always start with the photos and build around them. Right about the time that I learned about this scrapbooking event, my daughter told me she was going to a Kentucky Derby party, so I asked her for some photos to pick from!
Since these pages are for my memories, there are no rules. I’m using a variety of current and retired products. In fact this was a great excuse to look back through all my retired papers and use up some of my old favorites. I had so much fun laying out the photos and picking the perfect papers and products to embellish each page.
Color is a big factor for me, and I originally had a hard time finding something to coordinate with both dresses in this photo. But when I laid out the Fine Art Floral DSP (retired), I knew I had a winner! It’s got a nice mix of both blue and green.
To create the flowers, I used the Art Gallery stamps and coordinating Floral Gallery Dies and a color combination of Pale Papaya, Petal Pink, and Calypso Coral. My goal was to mimic the flowers on my daughter’s hat. I inked up the solid stamp with the lighter color and used a Sponge Dauber to add a little bit of Calypso Coral ink into the center. Then, I spritzed the stamp with water and stamped on Basic White. Afterwards, I did a similar thing with the detailed stamp and stamped over the first image.
For the bouquet near the title, I used Stampin’ Write Markers to add color directly to the stamp and then spritzed the the stamp with water prior to stamping on Basic White Cardstock. I colored the flowers with Petal Pink and Calypso Coral Markers and the leaves and stems with Balmy Blue and Bermuda Bay Markers.
The title features Stylish Shapes and Playful Alphabet Dies (retired.) Prior to cutting out the letters, I adhered the paper to Foam Adhesive Sheets so I could pop up the letters.
The final touch was some Rhinestone Waves Basic Jewels.
