Control Freaks Blog Hop – “Falling”

By | September 19, 2020

Welcome to the Control Freaks Blog Hop for September. This month, our theme is Fall/Autumn. It’s still fairly hot here in California, but the mornings are starting to cool down a bit, the temperature of my pool is slowly dropping. And, I can tell those beautiful crisp days of Autumn are right around the corner! 🙂

If you’re already following the blog hop, then you just came from Cindy Elam’s blog Heart’s Delight Cards. Isn’t she fantastic? If you’re just starting, be sure to continue on by using the Next Button at the bottom of this post.

I decided to try something new. These pop-up cards seem to be the rage right now, and they look so fun. I found some directions on splitcoaststampers and started playing around. Most of my project features the Celebrate Sunflowers Stamp Set and coordinating Sunflower Dies as well as the Flowers for Every Season 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper. I also added some pretty embossed leaves using the Gathered Leaves Dies.

I started by building the basic frame of the card using Tear & Tape Adhesive (my go to adhesive for 3-D projects!) Then, I added the sentiment and decorations. My only tip is to watch where you add the embellishments to ensure the card will be able to fold flat for mailing.

After assembling and decorating my card, I created an envelope and then added a pull-tie to the card to help remove it.

Here’s the back of the folded card when it’s pulled out of the envelope. This is where I can add a handwritten note.

Flip it around, and here’s the front.

Then, fold down the top two sections and here’s what you see.

Then, spread the two sides apart and it all comes to life.

I adhered the sentiment to a floating base attached to the two sides. I also added another floating base to the top to attach more decorations.

The Flowers for Every Season Designer Series Paper includes several beautiful sheets with Fall colors, including Bumblebee and Cinnamon Cider. Additional decorations include Mossy Meadow, Crumb Cake, and Soft Suede. I stamped the sunflowers with Memento ink and colored them with Stampin’ Blends Markers.

Be sure to continue on through the Control Freaks Blog Hop for more Fall inspiration. Next up is Debbie Henderson of Debbie’s Designs. I’m sure you’ll be inspired!

Have a wonderful and creative day!

How did you attach the flowers and leaves that are sticking out of the top? I’m making this beautiful card for a birthday card for one of my daughters. Thanks so much for sharing it!

Hi Linda, thanks so much. I had to add another bridge similar to the one I used to attach the sentiment.
