WWYS First Frost

Happy Monday!  Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend!!!  My husband and I were so happy to have both our son and daughter home for Thanksgiving.  Our adult son Samuel traveled to Stockton from the Bay Area, and our daughter Shannon drove home from Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles.  We spent the day with some dear friends, and enjoyed a wonderful turkey dinner and great company.

This week, the What Will You Stamp? Challenge Blog is featuring the gorgeous First Frost stamp set.  This is one of my favorite new stamp sets!  You can find the entire Frosted Floral suite of products on pages 36 and 37 of the Holiday catalog.

My card features a technique that I call watercolor stamping.  There are two ways to accomplish this technique:  1) Ink up the stamp and then add water directly to the stamp with an Aqua Painter prior to stamping or 2) stamp as normal and then use an Aqua Painter to add water to the stamped image after stamping.  For this card, I used the latter.

Since I knew I would be adding water to the stamped image, I stamped on Shimmery White Paper as it withstands watercoloring very well.

To complicate matters a little, I inked up all the roses with two colors.  I started by inking up the entire stamp with Cherry Cobbler ink and then I used a sponge dauber to add Blackberry Bliss ink directly to the rubber in varying degrees.  Adding two colors to the stamp really enhances the effects of watercoloring later.

Tip:  Use a fairly dry brush with this technique to avoid blurring the original image too much.

I also used the watercolor technique when I stamped the vines with Smoky Slate ink.  I love how adding a little water makes the card look painted.

For a little added interest on my background, I sponged some Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint on the edges of the corrugated layer.

I love this color combination!  It feels very classic and elegant.  What do you think?

Hope you can join us at What Will You Stamp? Challege Blog.  I’d love to see what you create with the First Frost stamp set.
