Watercolor Thank You

By | June 11, 2015

I used up a lot of my stash of thank you cards last weekend, so I’m working on creating new ones.  Today, I’m combining the Butterfly Basics and Another Thank You stamp sets for a pretty watercolored card using several of the new 2015-2017 In Colors.

Most of the work on this card centers on the background layer cut from Shimmery White paper.  This paper works great for watercoloring!  I started by stamping the “thank you” with Versamark ink and embossing it in black.  Then, I took the flower stamp from the Butterfly Basics stamp set and stamped and embossed random flowers surrounding the greeting.

Afterwards, I used Mint Macaroon ink to stamp random ferns in-between the flowers.

To color the flowers, I used an Aqua Painter and both Mint Macaroon and Watercolor Wonder ink.  When I was finished, I used my Aqua Painter to paint a variegated background of Tip Top Taupe.  I worked on small sections at a time, and when I painted around the ferns, I tried not to use too much water to avoid smearing the ink.  When I was done watercoloring, I also sponged Tip Top Taupe ink around the edges and stamped some small flowers in that same color.

To create the butterfly, I used Watermelon Wonder ink to stamp the small butterfly from the Butterfly Basics stamp set twice, once directly on the paper and a second time stamping off once.   After punching out the butterflies with the Bitty Butterfly punch, I sponged the edges with Tip Top Taupe ink, and used a glue dot to adhere them together.

I colored some small pearls with a black Sharpie pen and used them as the center of my butterfly.  Finally, I added my favorite new embellishment, some 1″ Dotted Lace Trim in Mint Macaroon.  I have to admit that I really love this color combination!  It has a beautiful vintage feel to it.
