TGIF!!! Friday means a new challenge, and this month we have an extra Friday, so we have a special challenge! It’s anything but a card. Typically, that means a 3-D project such as a gift, tag, box, home décor item like a frame … you get the drift.
Earlier this month, many of the TGIF Challenges Design Team met up in Orlando, Florida during the big 30th Stampin’ Up! Convention. It was SO FUN to meet these ladies in person! They are an absolutely AMAZING group of ladies … wild, crazy, fun, full of personality, and ultra talented. I’m so incredibly grateful to be included in the group (and honestly pretty astonished and humbled as well.) Most are former or current Artisan Designers. I truly admire them.
During the convention, we planned to have a 3-D swap, and many of the team members are posting their projects today on their blogs!!! That means you can click over to the TGIF Challenges Blog and then to their respective blogs to learn all the details on how they made each one! I know I certainly plan to!!!
Here’s a photo of my stash after the swap. I was so excited to receive these gorgeous projects. I treasure each and every one!
For my swap, I decided to make a little treat box using the TGIF Challenge colors, including Coastal Cabana, Bermuda Bay, Smoky Slate and Whisper White. I even ordered special M&Ms in those colors to put inside.
I wanted to make something ultra feminine and pretty, so I decided to create a big flower using the Daisy Punch. I used eight Coastal Cabana daisy punches to create each flower, as well as three small flowers cut from Bermuda Bay cardstock using the Blossom Builder Punch. Considering that I made 13 of these swaps, that was a whole lot of punches!!! Haha! .
I curled each flower individually using a bone folder and then assembled them with hot glue to ensure they were good and sturdy. And yes, this took a long time, but it was a labor of love:)
After assembling each flower, I used a Sponge Dauber to apply Frost White Shimmer Paint onto the tips of the petals. Love this!
I embossed the band that went around the Tiny Treat Box with the Petal Burst Textured Impression Embossing Folder. It was a little too long, so I embossed one end approximately half way down, and then flipped it and did the same thing on the other side. Since the meeting spot ended up on the bottom, no one will ever see!
For the leaves, I used the Frosted Bouquet Framelits to cut leaves out of Smoky Slate cardstock, and Foliage Frame Framelits Dies to cut leaves out of Vellum. Then, I used a 1-1/4″ Circle Punch base to adhere all the elements together, including the Gray Granite Textured Weave Ribbon, again using hot glue.
I cut the small tag using the Wood Crate Framelits Dies, and then stamped TGIF using the Labeler Alphabet stamp set in Bermuda Bay.
Since I had to transport all these swaps from California to Florida on a plane, I had to make sure they were super sturdy and would withstand jostling down the aisles in my carry on. Good thing, because right at the beginning of my journey, TSA pulled me over and emptied my whole carry-on bag to get at my box of swaps at the very bottom of my carry-on! I about died inside when the TSA agent grabbed the box and tipped it on its side with hardly a care. But, to my relief they were all fine. Guess they though there were M&M explosive bombs inside! LOL!!!
