#TGIFC144 – Card in a Box

By | January 26, 2018

It’s time for another TGIF Challenge!  This week is a technique challenge to create a “Card in a Box.”  To see all the designers amazing projects, go to the TGIF Challenges website.

I decided to go literal and make a traditional card in a box, but I think you could use some freedom in interpretation for this challenge and come up with other shapes and ideas.  For example, I almost decided to simply decorate one of those adorable Silver Gable Boxes.  I mean it is a box, and when you add a tag, it’s like a card.

Carolynn Sanders created a great video on how to make a Card in a Box, which you can see HERE.

I made this card for my mom, so I put a lot of love into it!  I used the gorgeous Petal Palette stamps and coordinating Petals & More Thinlits Dies to decorate my box, as well as the Petal Passion Designer Series Paper.  Oh my gosh, I LOVE all these products so much.  The watercolor style and beautiful flowers are just right up my alley.

After constructing the box out of Basic Black cardstock, I trimmed two different black and white sheets of Petal Passion DSP to adhere to the box and flaps.

There are two Z shaped tabs that fit inside the box to anchor all the elements.  They are also cut from Basic Black cardstock.

I stamped all the images with Basic Black Archival ink on Shimmery White Paper and watercolored them with Berry Burst, Fresh Fig, Powder Pink, Lemon Lime Twist, and Tranquil Tide ink … basically all the 2017-2019 In Colors.  Those colors are so bright and beautiful, and they look striking against the bold black and white background.

It was super easy to cut everything out with the coordinating Thinlits dies.

The box flattens, so I should have been able to place it in a standard envelope.  But, I got a little carried away with the placement of my leaves!  Haha.   Oh well, I had planned to hand deliver this card to my mom anyway, so I opted instead to make a custom envelope that would fit the protruding pieces:)

It was a good happening, because I ended up using matching Petal Passion DSP for the envelope and …

the gift bag!!!

I absolutely LOVE how this gift bag turned out.  I just happened to have some black and white tissue that coordinated with the Petal Passion DSP perfectly.

To decorate the bag, I trimmed the DSP down to cover the front and back of the bag, and then I used Fast Fuse to adhere it.  Afterwards, I played around with the ribbons until I figured out something pretty.  I love that little row of ribbons, again showing several of those gorgeous 2017-2019 In Colors.

For the tag, I used a stamp from the Petal Palette and cut it out with a Lots of Labels Framelits Die.  Then, I cut out some more leaves from Whisper White cardstock using the Petals & More Thinlits and adhered them to the back of the tag for a lacy look.

Supplies used on my projects:

Seriously Tami! This card is so stunning! & I had told myself that I did not need any more products from the Occasions Catty. You have now made me look back and change my mind without a second thought. Your card is beautiful, & the Gable Box idea is brilliant! The TGIF team is so blessed to have you on board with us! Cheers to many more challenges & fun! 💖
