I don’t know about you, but sometimes I look at all my stamps and feel overwhelmed, I don’t know where to start. I was feeling like that last Saturday; I wanted to design Christmas cards and needed some serious inspiration. To help, I started looking at websites with challenges. Challenges help me think outside the box and be more creative. So, I thought I’d try the TGIF Color Challenge for this week.
Color challenges are great because they take away one of the major decisions in designing a card … the colors. Plus, I LOVE the colors they picked for this week’s challenge! They are elegant and perfect for Christmas. You really should check out not only the designers’ projects, but the gorgeous entries so far. I love every single one of them!!!
So here’s the card I came up with using the Half Full stamp set.
UPDATE: I’m a winner of the TFIG Challenge!!!
This stamp set is so festive, it makes me want to sit down with a glass of wine, relax, and start celebrating the holidays (and have all the hard stuff like decorating and shopping be over!!!) I stamped all the images with Versamark ink on Watercolor Paper (which has a distinct vanilla color), embossed them in gold, and watercolored them with Cherry Cobbler ink.
Oh, I also stamped and embossed the little holly leaf from the Half Full stamp set, but I ended up cutting out just the berries. I decided I wanted solid gold holly leaves, so I die cut them out of Gold Foil using the Quilt Builder Framelits Dies.
For my Cherry Cobbler background, I wanted a touch of texture, so I used embossing paste that I colored with Cherry Cobbler Ink Refill. I added a couple drops to a little paste and believe me, it goes a long way! After mixing it together on a Silicone Craft Sheet, I used a palette knife to spread the colored paste over one of the Pattern Party Decorative Masks. If you want a little variegation in color, spread the second color over the first so it shows up.
Since gold was a key part of this color challenge, I add several gold accents to my card, including one of the gorgeous Foil Snowflakes and my favorite ribbon, the 3/8″ Metallic Edge Ribbon. That ribbon is so soft and lovely!!! To create the folds, I laid down some Tear & Tape adhesive and then finger folded the ribbon pressing it where I wanted it. Tear & Tape is super strong. Finally, I added a double bow of Gold Metallic Thread.
Yay! I love it!!!
