A week from today, my daughter will be taking college finals for her first semester at LMU (Loyola Marymount University.) She seems to be taking it all in stride so far, but I thought it would be really fun to surprise her with a box of goodies to raise her spirits. So, of course I HAD to make a card to send in the box!
I looked at my stash of stamps for something appropriate, and to my delight found some perfect ones in the Tin of Tags stamp set.
I started by embossing the Surprise in white on Real Red cardstock and then cutting it out with the Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies. Don’t you love the delicate stitching that the die places around the oval? Next, I found a Layering Oval Framelit (the scallop) that fit perfectly underneath, and I cut it out of some Red Glimmer Paper. This paper is so fun during the holidays!!!
Tip: Turn Glimmer paper upside down and place your framelit on the wrong side when cutting. That way, you won’t dull your framelit and you’ll get a nice crisp cut.
For the background, I used Shimmery White Paper. It’s great for watercoloring. I used an Aqua Painter to watercolor a quick wash of Real Red ink.
After drying the watercolor, I stamped the stars with Real Red ink and then quickly, before the ink dried, I embossed them with Real Red Glitter Embossing Powder. The Real Red ink ensures a nice crisp stamped image.
I finished off my card with some red sequins from the Brights collection, some rhinestone jewels, and some frayed Candy Cane Lane Baker’s Twine.
I think she’ll get a big kick out of this:)
