When I started thinking of alternative ideas for this month’s Paper Pumpkin kit, the first thing that popped into my mind was a gift bag. The banner that comes with the kit is so freaking cute that I wanted to integrate it into some sort of larger scale project. And, what better than a birthday bag?
I selected a large bag measuring 13″ x 10″. To cover the front, I used two strips of 2″ wide Tip Top Taupe cardstock layered with some Irresistible Floral Designer Specialty Paper (measuring 11″ x 10″.) I used a sponge brayer to color the specialty paper with Tip Top Taupe ink fading from the bottom to the top.
Have you tried the new sponge brayers? I totally love them!!! They come with two handles and four sponges. Plus, you can wash the sponges with soap and water after using them, so you can use the sponges again and again. I find that the new sponges are much easier to use than the old rubber brayers. They are easier to roll for a soft faded look, (no more lines!)
For my banner, I used the Banner Framelits Dies to cut the largest size banner out of both Gold Foil Paper and Tip Top Taupe cardstock. Then, I cut up one of the Mint Macaroon gift bag envelopes to create the folded “Happy” strip. I also used some of the excess paper from the circle die cuts to cut out the small “Birthday” strip. Then, I embossed some dots in gold in the background.
To create the banner header, I layered some of the washi tape that came with the kit over white paper and then trimmed it close.
For the banner, I made it just like the instructions in the kit, then I adhered the ends with glue dots. I tied the bows separately and adhered them with another glue dot. (Tip: To make sure my banner stays put, I placed a dimensional behind each one.)
After adding a little gold tissue paper, and I’ve got a pretty gift bag all ready to go.
In addition to the June 2016 Paper Pumpkin kit, I used the following supplies on my bag:
