Papa Bear Hugs

By | June 17, 2016

Father’s Day is Sunday and I wanted to make a special card for my hubby.  He’s such a great dad!!!

While our kids are both technically adults now, my husband is always there for them.  Take last week.  He drove to Hayward on Thursday and helped pack up my son and move him home from college, and then the very next day, he basically planned and carried out everything for my daughter’s graduation party.  While I came home a little early from my new job to help clean and decorate, it wasn’t anything compared to what he did.  He spent weeks planning, shopping, and decorating, including buying some really cool floating lights for the pool and breaking out my son’s light-up stereo system, which really set the mood for a fun party.

I know he’s not my “dad” but I appreciate him so much for the dad he is to our kids.  I think it’s important to let him know, and what better day than Father’s Dy?

To make my card, I used the Bear Hugs stamp set and coordinating framelits.  I stamped all the images with Basic Black Archival ink on watercolor paper so I could use Aqua Painters to color them.  When I first saw this stamp set, I knew I had to get it for my husband.  He loves bears and he loves to fish for trout!  He’s taken the kids fishing so many times over the years that I can’t even count.

While it’s a little busy, I wanted to make both a boy and girl bear to represent the two kids.  I even tried to paint the girl bear blond like my daughter:)

I’ve got a great technique for painting the fish to look like trout.  First, I paint the whole fish with Crumb Cake ink.  Then, I paint light stripes of Delightful Dijon, Watermelon Wonder and Dapper Denim.  Since the Crumb Cake is still wet, the other colors blend right in.

Check out the new ribbon on my card.  I LOVE the new Burlap Ribbon.  It’s much more loosely woven and narrower than the old burlap from last year.  I also really love the new Ruched Ribbon that comes in all the new In-Colors.  It’s nice and thin so it’s easy to tie small knots and not have to add extra postage.

I also love the new By The Shore Designer Series Paper!!!  Oh my gosh, I just got it and the designs are so, so pretty.  Plus, I love the colors.  It’s not just for beach and ocean themed cards, as you can see here.
