New Layered Letters

By | May 28, 2015

I’ve been making lots of graduation cards lately, because several of my daughter’s friends are graduating this year.  In fact, everyone on her senior dance team is graduating except for her!  It’s so sad to say good-bye to these girls that she’s been dancing with for so many years!

For today’s card, I used lots of new things from the 2015 Annual Catalog (items available to order on June 2, 2015!)  First, I used the Layered Letters Alphabet stamp set.  This is a photopolymer stamp set that includes both these fun letters as well as the rectangle stamp.  Additionally, I used the bright and cheery Cherry On Top Designer Series Paper Stack and Cherry On Top Designer Washi Tape, as well as two new 2015-2017 In Colors – Watermelon Wonder and Cucumber Crush.

I layered lots of banners on this card, mostly because I wanted to break up the busy background and bring focus to the “HAPPY.”  I found that the easiest way to make perfect “Vs” on my banners is to either use the Banner or Hexagon punches.  When using the Banner punch, be sure to feed the strip of paper through the back as shown, so you don’t accidentally cut the banner!

To stamp my letters, I started by randomly stamping the rectangles in coordinating colors of Cucumber Crush, Pool Party, Bermuda Bay, Watermelon Wonder and Crushed Curry.  For the lighter colored rectangles, I stamped the letters straight on top.  For the darker rectangles, I stamped the letters on a scrap piece of Whisper White card stock and cut them out by hand.  In fact, for one of the “Ps” I stamped a Crushed Curry rectangle first, then stamped the Watermelon Wonder “P” over it, and then cut out the “P”.

The “graduation” stamp is from the Crazy About You stamp set.  Don’t you love the vibrant, happy colors in the Cherry On Top Designer Series Paper Stack?  They’re perfect for any celebration!

To create the little flags, I folded Cherry On Top Designer Washi Tape around toothpicks, then I used a Banner or Hexagon Punch to cut the “Vs.”  I tied them all together with some Painted Blooms Cotton Twine.  Lastly, I used some Fringe Scissors to create the fun ruffle on the bottom out of Pool Party card stock.  Before adhering the fringe layer, I used a Bone Folder to give it some curl.
