MMS Version 7

By | December 21, 2015

I’ve been playing with My Memories Suite (MMS) and some of the new functions that came with the upgrade to version 7.  I just recently made the transition from My Digital Studio to MMS software, so I’m really just learning.  However, the software is so similar to My Digital Studio that I feel right at home.  And, with the upgrade to version 7, MMS appears to have all the capabilities of My Digital Studio plus more.

One of the new functions with version 7 is the ability to blur the edges of a photo!  This is such a fun, elegant effect that I had to try it out.  It’s very simple to do.  I added and then highlighted my photo, then I simply right clicked and selected “Blur Photo Edges”.  It’s very similar to ripping the edges of a photo.  A window pops up, and I can select which side I want to blur and the degree of the blur.  For my page below, I selected a blur width of 35.

For this page, I used background paper that came free with MMS version 5 called Fantastic Fall-SwirlishHint.  Then, I purchased the rest of the embellishements in a bundle called Heartsong by Misty Cato from Sweet Shoppe Designs.  I was searching for some dance kits and came across this particular one.  It’s very elegant with lots of dancer words and antique ribbons and flowers.

To purchase and add a download from an outside designer like this one, this is what you do.  After checking out, you should get an email or a message pointing towards your download.  Save it to the Downloads Folder on your computer.  Usually, it’s a zip file.  So, you’ll need to go to your Downloads Folder on your computer, right click on the zip folder and select Extract All.  This will open a new folder in your Downloads Folder that you can add to your My Memories Suite program.  For the download above, it was a bundle, so I had four folders in my Downloads Folder.  I had to open each one to figure out what was in them (i.e. embellishments or papers.)

Next, find your program file.  Mine is located at C:/Program Files (x86)/My Memories Suite.  Then, you’ll need to move the folders from your Download Folder to the correct folders within the My Memories Suite Components File.  So for example, for the Downloads Folders that contained embellishments, I moved them to C:/Program Files (x86)/My Memories Suite/Components/Embellishments/Designer Kits and for the papers, I moved them to C:/Program Files (x86)/My Memories Suite/Components/Backgrounds/Designer Series Paper/Designer Kits.  I also held down my Control Key when I moved the downloaded folders so that only a copy was moved to the program files.  That way, I also moved a copy to my downloads backup file on my external hard drive just in case.

Do all the moving above with My Memories Suite closed down.  After the files are moved, open the program and you should see all your new goodies.  Then, enjoy and start creating!

Have fun exploring all the downloads out there!
