Mermaid Kisses #GDP133

By | April 15, 2018

Happy Sunday!  I got a little time to craft this weekend, so I thought I’d play with the color challenge over at the Global Design Project.  The challenge includes the following three colors.

Not only is it a color challenge, but the winner gets the opportunity to be a guest designer!  Go to the Global Design Project website to see all the designers’ amazing projects using these colors.

The colors reminded me of the deep ocean, so I decided to make a mermaid card using the Magical Mermaid stamp set.  I used a couple really fun techniques too, including a “smooched” watercolor background and coloring on foil cardstock!  I got the idea of coloring on foil from Maria Willis, who is the guest designer this week.  She did an absolutely fabulous card showcasing this technique.

UPDATE:  I’m a GDP winner!  It’s so exciting!!!  Watch for the next color challenge on May 7th, when I’ll be a guest designer.

I started with the “smooched” background.  I pressed my Night of Navy and Tranquil Tide ink pads onto a Silicone Craft Sheet, and then I liberally spritzed the sheet with water.  Afterwards, I “smooched” a sheet of Shimmery White paper into the sheet, and it came out looking like this!  So cool!!!

Afterwards, I stamped the splatter stamp with Crumb Cake ink on the bottom and blended it with my Aqua Painter to create “sand.”

For the mermaid, I embossed her in gold on Shimmery White Cardstock, and then watercolored her with the three challenge colors.  I also cut out various dies using the Swirly Scribbles and Bouquet Bunch Framelits Dies from Shimmery White Cardstock to create an underwater garden.

But the really cool technique on this card is the foil!  I used a Night of Navy (dark) Stampin’ Blends Marker to color Silver Foil die cuts for the “seaweed” and scallops.  (I used the edge of a Layering Squares die.)  Unfortunately, the photo doesn’t do it justice.  In real life, the blue foil shimmers and is absolutely gorgeous!!!

For some final details, I added some Glitter Epoxy Shapes, also colored with a Night of Navy Stampin’ Blends Marker, and a Linen Thread bow.

Supplies used on my card:
