Lovin’ the Swirls

By | May 20, 2016

The new 2016-2018 Annual Catalog has some really amazing products.  One thing I noticed in particular was all the fantastic new die cuts.  I am totally IN LOVE with them.  There are lots of new ones to choose from, including some really beautiful intricate ones like the one I’m featuring today.

My project today uses a bundle that includes the Swirly Bird stamp set and Swirly Scribbles Thinlits Dies.  (Buy in a bundle and save 15%!)  Aren’t these whimsical flowers fun?  There are a million things you could do with this bundle; and I’m being serious.  This is only the tip of the iceberg.  It is so, super fun.

I used one more new stamp set on my project for the greeting, the Thoughtful Banners stamp set and coordinating Duet Banner Punch.  This will also be sold in a bundle for 15% off when the new catalog goes live on June 1, 2016.

This stamp set is so cool, because you can mix and match words to create loads of different custom greetings.  Plus, since the stamps are photopolymer, it’s super easy to bend the stamps to fit the curve of the banners!!!

My goal was to make an inspirational card.  At the end of the dance year, which occurs in June, it’s tradition for the senior competitive dancers to write encouraging notes to their junior teammates right before the big recital.  Well this year, my daughter is the ONLY senior competitive dancer.  So, she’ll be writing about 25 notes!!!  I’m not sure if all of them will be this intricate, but I am starting to work on making her a stack of cards.

To create this card, I first stamped three Swirly Bird flowers on Shimmery White paper using Watermelon Wonder, Flirty Flamingo, and Pumpkin Pie ink.  Then, I spritzed the paper to let the colors bleed.  After the paper was dry, I added splatters and smaller flowers using Peekaboo Peach ink.

Tip: To create the banner, I stamped the outline first.  Then, I placed my acrylic block over the banner and used the stamped image to bend my words to match the curve of the banner.  (Remember that you’re writing backwards, since the block is upside down, so start on the right.)

After stamping the leaves with Pear Pizzazz and Old Olive ink, it was simple to cut them all out with the leaf die cuts included in the Swirly Scribbles Thinlits dies.

You’ll notice another new product on this card from the 2016-2017 Annual Catalog, which is Whisper White Thick Baker’s Twine.  I unraveled it in thirds and tied it in a bow for a soft look.

All the new 2016-2018 In Colors coordinate beautifully with the 2015-2017 In Colors.  So, you can see here that Flirty Flamingo and Watermelon Wonder are a great pair.  I also discovered that Peekaboo Peach and Pumpkin Pie look amazing together!!!

Look for all these new products in the 2016-2017 Annual Catalog, which will be available to order from my online store on June 1, 2016.  Have a fantastic weekend!!!
