Keep It Simple

By | February 10, 2017

Last week, I participated in a card challenge to design a simple birthday card, and then duplicate it twice.  No problem, right?

Well, maybe a problem for me.  I rarely make simple cards.  I always feel like I need to add detailed watercoloring, or something to make the card look like I spent time and effort.  But, I also realize that’s not always practical.  In fact, I have a bunch of guy birthdays coming up at work, so I figured this challenge was perfect for the situation:)

I decided to use the Wetlands stamp set.  I know several of these guys are into hunting, and I’ve seen donations to Duck’s Unlimited on the books.  So, while this is an image of a goose (I’m pretty sure) and not a duck, I figured it would be a good choice.

I stamped the goose first with Early Espresso ink.  Then, I did a little masking technique to stamp the grass behind the goose.  I stamped the goose on a Post-It note and cut out the body.  Then, I placed it over the original stamped image and stamped the grass.  The Post-It note prevents the grass from stamping on the goose.

Keeping with the simple theme, I used a Blender Pen to pick up a little ink from the lids of my stamp pads and create highlights.  I used Crumb Cake and Pool Party ink on the grass and Bermuda Bay ink on the goose.

The background of the card is a sheet of paper from the Serene Scenery Designer Series Paper Stack.  That stack has loads of great designs.  It’s a super simple way to make your card look great without having to do any work.

Finally, I stamped the greeting and cut it out with a Tags & Labels Framelits die and layered it over some Linen Thread and Burlap Ribbon.  Voila, done!
