Hope you had a great Valentine’s Day yesterday. I had a fun day. My daughter and I watched Moulin Rouge together. She’s currently taking a film class, and it’s very interesting to hear all the symbolism in that movie. I watched it with a totally different perspective. Later, my husband cooked our favorite dinner (I’m so lucky to be married to such a great cook!), and we cracked open the champagne. It was a wonderful day.
I have to admit that up until yesterday, I was a little disappointed. I had ordered the Bear Hugs bundle, or at least thought I had, with the intention of using it for a card for my husband, because it was just too perfect for words. Unfortunately, when I got the stamp set a few weeks ago, I realized to my great disappointment, that not only had I failed to order clear mount stamps, but I also somehow failed to order the bundle and had no framelits!!! Ugh! I don’t know where my mind was that day. So I immediately returned the wood mount stamp set for an exchange, but I figured I’d be very lucky to get it back in time for Valentine’s Day. Rats!
But, surprise, surprise, guess what came in the mail yesterday??? My bundle! Who, hoo!!! So, Valentine’s morning I set to work on enhancing a few gifts and using some of my original ideas.
My husband is a fisherman and loves the back country. He and I use to hike a lot in the Sierra, including Yosemite, when we were younger. In fact, we got married in Yosemite. He’s always loved bears. So when I saw the Bear Hugs stamp set, with the bears and the fish and the heart, it was just too perfect for words!!!
I love the way you can make the bear from this set look like he’s hugging something. To achieve that, I stamped the bear and cut him out with the coordinating framelit. Then, I used a Stamp-a-ma-jig to line up the stamp and stamp again on the back side. After watercoloring the bear on both sides, I curled his arms with a bone folder and voila, he’s hugging the heart! Too cute for words.
To decorate the Big Kiss Box, I cut out a big heart using my old retired Hearts Collection Framelits Die. Then, I embossed it with the Happy Heart Textured Impression Embossing Folder. The two XOXO stamps are from the January Paper Pumpkin stamps.
Next, I made a little sign to hang over a bottle of champagne. I watercolored the bear and fish. First, I stamped them with Basic Black Archival Ink on watercolor paper. Then, I used an Aqua Painter to watercolor everything. For the bear, I used mostly Soft Suede ink, but he looked a little dull and gray. So, I added a wash of Watermelon Wonder ink to warm him up and color his ears. That made him look a little more golden, which is what I wanted.
For the fish, I started with a light wash of Crumb Cake, and then I added Lost Lagoon, Hello Honey and Watermelon Wonder to create my “rainbow” trout.
I absolutely adore the greeting “Wishing You A Day Full of Sunshine, And a Lake Full of Fish.” It was a big hit with my husband too! Yeah!!!
