I made a promise to have two more installments of my 2017 desktop calendars this month, and I haven’t forgotten!!! I may just make it my the skin of my teeth, but I’m really going to try.
I designed the August 2017 calendar using the Flourishing Phrases stamp set and coordinating Flourish Thinlits Dies. (You can purchase them both in a bundle for 10% off!) The stamp set is huge with 18 stamps, including lots of encouraging words for weddings, thank yous, comfort and sympathy. The thinlit set is also fully loaded with gorgeous intricate dies. You can find them both on page 49 of the Annual Catalog.
I used one of my favorite dies, which is the long strip along the side of my page, as well as a couple of the pretty leaves.
Then, I did a fun trick with the large flower. First, I inked it with Daffodil Delight ink, and then before stamping, I used a sponge dauber to add some Tangerine Tango ink to the center for a multicolored look. I have a couple tips to pass along when using this technique. First, always start with your lightest colored stamp. That way, you won’t accidentally pick up ink and mess up your ink pad when using the sponge dauber. Second, remember to huff on the stamp before stamping. The huff adds a little moisture to the stamp to re-activate the water based ink, and it will help you get a better stamped image. I used a similar technique with the stamped leaves. I started with Pear Pizzazz and then added Garden Green ink with a sponge dauber.
Also, remember that you can wash your sponge daubers with soap and water and re-use them when dry.
There are no die cuts for the flower and leaves, so I had to use good old fashioned scissors to cut them out. (Gasp! We’ve all gotten so spoiled.)
For the month, I used my December 2015 Paper Pumpkin stamp set. If you don’t have this set, you can use the Project Life Date It stamp set instead. I used a Layering Oval Framelit to cut out the month and popped it up with some dimensionals. (The Layering Ovals are on sale right now for 25% off!!! Sale ends September 21st.)
Finally, I placed a small punch underneath the Real Red die cut flower on the right. That punch came from the Blossom Builder Punch.
I created the days and weeks with My Memories Suite. If you would like to print out the sheet, click HERE. Print the photo on Very Vanilla cardstock with the least amount of margins possible and then trim the layers to measure 3″ x 5″ each as shown below. Each sheet with make four calendar pages.
For the background of my pages, I used some black and vanilla sheets from the Playful Palette Designer Series Paper Stack, trimmed down to 4″ x 6″ You can see that I used three different designs.
