April Desktop Calendars

By | April 4, 2016

Before I start today, I want to say thank you to all my email subscribers for hanging in there.  Unbeknownst to me, my email update service stopped working sometime in March.  If it wasn’t for a dear friend telling me that she was no longer receiving Swimming In Stamps emails, I never would have known.  So I had to scramble over the weekend to find a new service and get it all set up.  Hopefully, the transition is fairly seamless, and you should now be receiving email updates when I post.  If not, please re-subscribe by entering your email on the right side bar of my blog.

I must have been seriously distracted by this email service thing, because I looked at my post from Saturday and realized I’d made a BIG MISTAKE.  When I created the printable calendar sheet for my March desktop calendars, (using the My Memories Suite calendar function), I only changed one of the four calendars to March 2017.  All the rest were still February!  I didn’t catch it, because the two months start on the same day, but obviously February has 28 days (in 2017) and March has 31 days!!!  Therefore, 3/4 of the calendar pages I completed and took pictures of were wrong, because they only had 28 days!!!  Oh my gosh, I can’t even believe I did that.  I had to rip apart six of my calendars to fix them.  I’ve since gone back and corrected the photos, as well as the printable download.  If you had already printed it, I apologize profusely!!!!

Moving on, I have the April calendars to share with you today, and yes I double and triple checked that all the calendars really reflect April 2017!!!

To create these calendars, I used the Watercolor Wings and the December 2015 Paper Pumpkin stamp sets.  If you don’t have that particular Paper Pumpkin stamp set, I suggest printing out the month on cardstock using a pretty font.  To cut out the month, I used a Bitty Banners Framelits die.

I stamped the butterfly using Blackberry Bliss, Melon Mambo, Watermelon Wonder, and Basic Black ink.  When I used the Watermelon Wonder ink for the background of the butterfly, I stamped off once to lighted it up.

Tip:  I like to stamp the darker outline of the butterfly first.  That way, it’s easy for me to see the edges and line up all the rest of the photopolymer stamps.  Another tip is to cut out the butterfly with the coordinating Butterflies Thinlits die and then stamp the body of the butterfly afterwards.  That way the body lines up perfectly with the die cut.

I used my Magnetic Plate in my Big Shot machine to cut out the small butterfly.  It helps to hold the thinlit in place.

For the larger butterfly, I used a Butterflies Thinlit and my Precision Base Plate in my Big Shot.  The Precision Base Plate is made for lacy dies like this one with lots of intricate pieces.

Prior to assembling my calendar page, I used a pencil to mark where to stamp the antennae.

For the calendar layer, I used My Memories Suite to create the weekdays and numbers and then printed it on Sahara Sand cardstock.  You can download the printable April 2017 calendar page HERE.  Use the smallest margins available for your printer, and then trim off 1/2″ from the top, left and right sides.  Each calendar section should measure 3″ x 5″; therefore, one sheet will provide four calendars.

Cutting Instructions

Once you have the calendar layer cut out, sponge the sides with Sahara Sand ink, and then use SNAIL adhesive to adhere the Sahara Sand 7/8″ Lace Trim and banner.

For the background of my calendar, I used some Perfectly Artistic Sale-A-Bration Designer Series Paper cut to 4″ x 6″.  I stamped the dots from the Watercolor Wings stamp set with Sahara Sand ink.

Here’s a picture of all eight of my completed April 2017 desktop calendars:

In addition to the December 2015 Paper Pumpkin stamps, I used the following supplies to make my calendars:

I’ll continue making one of these calendar pages each month.  I encourage you to make them with me.  You can find previous months in prior posts on my blog.  By the end of the year, we’ll have a whole set of 2017 desktop calendars to hand out as Christmas gifts!
