A Shaker Card For The Star

By | May 30, 2016

My baby girl is graduating from High School this week!

I racked my brain to think of a clever card to make for her.  She’s so creative herself, so I really wanted to challenge myself.  Then, inspiration struck me.  We were reminiscing this weekend, while looking through an old school days scrapbook.  I saw the most hilarious drawing she made when she was in Kindergarten.  She drew a picture of herself as a star handing out autographs.  When I saw it, it all came back to me.  She used to tell people all the time that she was going to be a star.  And, it came to me that I needed to do a star themed graduation card.

Stampin’ Up! has a great new product coming out in the new Annual Catalog.  (You’ll be able to order from it in TWO days on June 1st!!!)  It’s Foam Adhesive Strips that are perfect for making shaker cards!!!

Here’s a picture of one of the sheets.  (There are two in a pack.)  To make my shaker card, I cut out the star frame using the Stars Collection Framelits Dies, and then on the back of one, I pieced these strips together to cover the entire star.  They are nice and tall so there’s plenty of room for items to shake around.

Tip:  Before placing the foam strips down, be sure to glue a window sheet on the back of the star!  I forgot.  But, if you mess up like me, just cut out another star frame and sandwich the Window Sheet in-between the two frames.

I placed Brights Sequins inside my shaker star, but you could also create your own confetti with small punched items.

For the background, I used some Going Places Designer Series Paper.  I love that pack of paper, and I’m so sad that it’s retiring tomorrow!!!  It’s an awesome paper pack with just beautiful designs.

To emphasize the star and sentiment, I chose bright colors while I kept the background in vanilla.  Then I added just a few sequins outside the shaker for a splash of color.

For the greeting, I used Crazy About You photopolymer stamps that I bent in the shape of the Duet Banner punch.  I am quickly realizing that I ABSOLUTELY ADORE the Duet Banner punch!!!!  I highly recommend it as one of my favorite new products:)
