18th Birthday

By | April 9, 2016

My baby is turning 18 tomorrow!!!  This is just crazy!  I can’t believe how fast the years have gone by.  I’m having a much harder time with this one, probably because she’s my youngest.

Because this is such a BIG birthday milestone, I wanted to make a super special card for her.  I bought the Number of Years photopolymer stamp set and Large Numbers Framelits for this exact occasion.  (You can purchase these two items in a bundle for 15% off!)

I chose super vibrant, cheerful colors for this card so it was ultra feminine and youthful.

For the floral layer, I stamped the leaves and flowers on Shimmery White paper using Mossy Meadow, Blackberry Bliss, Watermelon Wonder, and Tangelo Twist ink, and then I used a Spritzer to lightly mist the paper with clear water and let the colors run.  For this particular card, I found that I had the best success when I spritzed all the colors together, rather than one color at a time.  Heed this warning though.  If you try this, be very careful about how much water you spritz.  The Blackberry Bliss ink really runs a lot.  I had a few failures before this one, due to over spritzing:)

Tip:  Have a paper towel nearby when you do this technique to mop up accidental pools of water that you don’t like.  Also, practice spritzing on scratch paper to figure out how far away to hold the spritzer and control the flow of water.

For the background layer, I used an Aqua Painter to watercolor Shimmery White paper in a rainbow using the same colors as the floral layer.

One of the best things about this stamp set are the coordinating framelits!  I love the large numbers and banners that can all be cut out and layered.  It makes decorating a snap.  This stamp set is also perfect for anniversaries and scrapbook pages.

I love this stamp for the inside!  It’s just perfect for this occasion.

Supplies used on my card:

This card features several of the 2014-2016 In Colors that will be retiring soon.  I’m so sad to see them go, as they are some of my favorites in years.  If you need to re-stock any of the inks, re-inkers, cardstock, or coordinating products, be sure to do it soon before supplies run out!
